The Magic of the Vacuum Cleaner

There are so many items in stores today that scream ‘buy me, buy me!’ yet still they sit, unwanted and not bought.   This is never the case with the vacuum cleaner.  Never will it sing this song as it is wanted and loved by everyone.

Vacuum cleaners used to be sold door to door and would bear a pretty hefty price tag.  Unfortunately only the rich and well to do could afford these wonderful housekeeping accessories.  But over the past fifty years vacuums have become available for the general public at stores across the globe.   They come in all shapes and sizes and are capable of doing many different household tasks.

Many stores sell a variety of vacuum cleaners.  Some are handheld so they can be used to suck up unwanted rubbish out of cars and under furniture.  Many of the vacuums are called ‘uprights’ and are a tad bit heavy but easy to manoeuvre.   The older types of upright vacuum cleaners came with a disposable or cloth bag that would hold all the dust and dirt sucked up by the machine.  The user would simply unzip the back of the bag and remove the dust bag and toss it into the bin.  Today most upright vacuum cleaners are bag less and use a removable canister for holding the particles.   These canisters have a filter which needs to be cleaned periodically.   Upright vacuum cleaners are usually compact with many different nozzles and accessories to get into hard to reach places.  They are easy to store and easy to move around on its wheels.  They come in all different colours, sizes and prices along with several engine sizes.

There are also vacuums that make it easy to clean because they are small and lightweight.   The handle is separate from the compact machine that is easily pulled around behind the user.  The hose is usually on a 360 degree swivel so there is ease in moving around the house.  Although small in stature, the engine usually packs about 1800 watts of power for the suction is perfect for household chores.

A newly patented machine developed by Dyson brags about its ‘dyson ball’ what makes manoeuvring effortless and fun.   It simply rotates on a ball mechanism which allows the user to make turns and getting to hard to reach areas easy.  These machines are lightweight, have strong suction, a super filtering system, new technology, a lifetime guarantee and a hefty price tag.

Shopping for a new vacuum cleaner is fun and easy as there is something out there for every kind of consumer.  Just go to any appliance store and peruse the selection.  No one has an excuse anymore not to have a clean dust free and fibre free house with the great choices in vacuums today.

Where to Find the Cheapest Wardrobes

Many of us these days are on the lookout for bargains. This is not only because it is a good feeling to get a bargain but also because for many of us times are hard. We can no longer afford to waste money by paying too much for items that we need. The good news though is that there are some great bargains out there; especially with furniture items like wardrobes. Here are just a few ways that you can find the cheapest wardrobes.

  • Buying second-hand wardrobes isn’t for everyone but it can be a great way to get your hands on the best deals. You will pick up something really cheap at local markets or even in the classified ads. You should also try eBay and other online resources for some great second hand bargains.

  • If you know that somebody in your neighbourhood is moving house then you might want to check out what they are doing with their furniture. You may well find that they are eager to get rid of it; some might even be willing to allow you to take items for free – this saves them for having to pay to dispose of it. You should also ask family and friends to see if any of them are getting rid of furniture like wardrobes.

  • If you are prepared to buy worn furniture then you will get the best deals. You will then be able to restore these to their former glory. This is not only a way to save money but it is also very rewarding as well.

  • If you want some great value wardrobes then you will probably find these online. Here you will get the best bargains because these sellers have to keep prices low due to the amount of competition on the web these days. The internet seller also has few overheads and so can pass on savings to their customers. The other great thing about purchasing online is that you also get a lot more choice and it is overall just a convenient way to shop.

  • If you are good with your hands then you can save money by purchasing ‘do it yourself’ wardrobes. These will come in packs which you then assemble yourself. The instructions are usually quite straightforward and most people will be able to follow them. If you are like me though you could be a disaster at this; your choice then is to either pay more for assembled wardrobes or get somebody to help you assemble.

  • If you are going to be purchasing online make sure that you visit a few websites to get an idea about the best price.

A Simple Approach to Karndean Floor Installation

Karndean flooring can be both attractive and cost effective, especially of you choose to install it yourself. With a methodical approach, and a little basic competence, it’s a task that’s well within the scope of most home improvement enthusiasts. Some important considerations include having the best materials at your disposal. Karndean flooring arrives with very specific instructions, and they should always be followed. With a few basic steps a home can be transformed with attractive and easy to fit flooring.

Preparation

It’s advisable to remove all Karndean Flooring sections from their packaging and to allow them to adjust to the atmosphere of a building for 24 hours before installation commences. Ideally, a constant temperature will be maintained a day before, during and after installation. The ideal constant temperature is between 18 and 26 degrees. It’s wise to ensure that you have plenty of space in which to work, and that means keeping your tools in order and everything unnecessary outside the room.

Existing Surfaces

Surfaces that you’re covering with this type of flooring need to be properly prepared. They need to be reasonably dry, and in some cases a membrane that is damp proof will need to be installed. Preparation methods obviously vary depending on the type of surface to be covered. Concrete, asphalt, tile and wooden surfaces will all require a different approach, but don’t become daunted. Adhesives are readily available, and all come with comprehensive instructions for use. The guiding principle is that existing surfaces need to be clean, smooth and level before the flooring is applied.

Adhesives

A trowel should be used to spread the recommended adhesives onto the floor in readiness for installation. Purchased adhesives should be supplied with a specialist tool for their application. It’s wise not to get carried away when it comes to the application of adhesives. Often, applying too much at once can be counter productive. Applying adhesives over too wide an area can lead to it drying out before you come to actually install flooring. After sections of flooring have been applied it’s important not to ruin hard work under foot.

Rolling

When smart new flooring panels have been laid carefully onto well prepared under floor surfaces, the next stage in the installation process is rolling. Rollers will ideally weigh 100lb, and when going over newly applied flooring it’s wise to be thorough. Rolling twice is advisable, and it’s much better not to rush the process.

With proper preparation and installation new flooring will provide many years of excellent service. Unlike other surfaces, your new tiles or planks will not chip, warp or distort with changes in humidity. It’s easy to see why this is the flooring of choice for many.
